I’m a central-Illinois based photographer interested in exploring the natural processes that shape landscapes. I studied geology and art at Augustana College in Northern Illinois before completing a master’s degree in geology at Northern Arizona University. My background includes working as a professional geologist, which has allowed me to travel extensively throughout Arizona, Utah, Colorado, California, Oregon, and the Midwest.
I learned the basics of photography on an old Minolta XG-M 35mm film camera and the fundamentals of black & white printing in my high school and college darkrooms. These techniques still inform my photographic process today. I still favor the black & white image and tend to photograph simple landscapes that emphasize the basic elements of line, pattern, texture, and form. I aim to create images that encourage contemplation of scale, design, and process within our natural world.
