Alexandra Caraballo De Jesús
My name is Alexandra Carballo De Jesus, and I was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico. I wasn’t born into a predominantly artful family, and although my family is from a cultural and religiously structured background, art still managed to make its way into my life and heavily influence who I am today. I moved to Urbana, Illinois two years ago after I finished my bachelor’s degree in Digital Art and Design from La Escuela de Artes Plásticas y Diseño de Puerto Rico. Although most of my contemporary work focuses on traditional media, I still rely on my computer every now and then for digital pieces.
Most of my contemporary work is based on traditional media, specifically acrylic painting on canvas. Throughout my bachelor’s degree in Digital Art and Design, I honed my abilities to express my thoughts through digital media like illustration and comics. However, painting has always drawn most of my attention, even after attending college to obtain a broader set of skills. After I graduated, my work has mostly been based on creating paintings where I can portray the little world that lives inside of me through pastel colors and portraits representing women living their best lives.
